The organization collaborates with the Observatory promoted by GSIC and Microsoft to explore technological solutions applied to the protection of audiovisual content in sport.
Valencia, July 22, 2026 — LALIGA and the Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft (GSIC) continue to strengthen their collaboration to drive innovation in the fight against audiovisual piracy, one of the major challenges currently facing the sports industry.
This collaboration is part of a long-standing relationship between LALIGA and GSIC, which since 2018 have worked together on open innovation programs aimed at identifying, connecting, and accelerating technological solutions for the sports industry. Among these initiatives is The Original Inspiration Centre by LALIGA supported by GSIC, a global startup competition promoted by LALIGA and managed by GSIC, whose objective was to identify disruptive technological developments in areas such as media, fan engagement, smart venues, sports performance, big data, artificial intelligence, and audiovisual piracy. The program attracted startups from around the world and enabled innovative companies to connect with real collaboration and pilot opportunities within the LALIGA ecosystem.
Along the same lines, LALIGA will remain linked to the Anti-Piracy Technology Observatory, an initiative promoted by GSIC and Microsoft with the objective of connecting sports organizations, rights holders, startups, and technology companies specialized in the protection of audiovisual content.
The Observatory was presented last April at PEAK Las Vegas Conference, where LALIGA had the opportunity to participate, share the challenges facing the industry in terms of content protection, and connect with innovative technologies specialized in the fight against audiovisual piracy. Some of these connections have already led to pilots and conversations with technology companies. This progress reflects GSIC’s role as a bridge between the real needs of sports organizations and the technological solutions capable of addressing those challenges.
Through this space, LALIGA will continue exploring new technologies and collaborating with innovative companies from the GSIC ecosystem to identify solutions that can contribute to the detection, prevention, and fight against audiovisual piracy, as well as to the protection of the value of audiovisual rights in sport.
In addition, José Ignacio Carrillo de Albornoz, Institutional Audiovisual Anti-Fraud Manager at LALIGA, has confirmed his participation as a speaker at GSIC Summit Valencia 2026, which will take place on October 7 and 8 in Valencia. During the event, he will take part in a panel dedicated to analyzing how the sports ecosystem is addressing the challenges of audiovisual piracy and the role technology can play in protecting content and the business models linked to sport.
LALIGA’s participation in the Anti-Piracy Technology Observatory reinforces the shared commitment to advancing toward a more protected, sustainable, and innovative sports industry, capable of responding to the challenges arising from the illegal distribution of content across digital environments.
