Valencia will host the National Final of Red Bull Basement on May 9 at La Harinera, bringing together some of the most promising young innovators in the country with the support of València Innovation Capital. As one of the most influential global youth innovation programs, Red Bull Basement empowers university students and young entrepreneurs to develop technology-driven solutions with real-world impact, further reinforcing Valencia’s position as a growing hub for innovation and talent.
The event will take place at La Harinera, a municipal innovation space, which has established itself as a hub for creativity, technology, and entrepreneurship within the city’s innovation ecosystem.
In this edition, GSIC Testing Lab, the sports innovation laboratory of the Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft, based in Valencia, will play a key role as host of the event in collaboration with the Valencia City Council through Valencia Innovation Capital. Notably, Red Bull, the organization behind the Basement program, is also a member of GSIC, further strengthening the collaboration within the ecosystem.
Paula Llobet, Councillor for Tourism, Innovation and Investment Attraction, stated: “Valencia continues to establish itself as a leading city in innovation and young talent. Hosting the National Final of Red Bull Basement at La Harinera demonstrates our commitment to a creative ecosystem capable of driving real solutions to global challenges. We are proud that some of the country’s best ideas can be born and projected from our city.”
Juan Fuentes, Director of GSIC Testing Lab, highlighted: “For us, collaborating in this edition of Red Bull Basement is an extraordinary opportunity to connect university talent with the methodology and capabilities of GSIC Testing Lab. We want to help transform these ideas into impactful projects, and Valencia is the perfect place for innovation to grow.”
Transforming Ideas into Real Solutions
Red Bull Basement offers participants the opportunity to turn ideas into real solutions through a combination of technology, training, and mentorship. After submitting their proposals, teams receive Microsoft Azure credits to develop a proof of concept, which is then evaluated by a panel of local experts responsible for selecting the national finalists.
Ahead of the final, students take part in a preparation phase that helps them structure their presentations. During the event on May 9, each team will present a visual representation of their project and deliver a pitch outlining the relevance of their proposal and its potential impact. A specialized jury will select the team that will represent Spain at the Global Final of the program.
The winning project of the national final will enter a development phase, receiving an AMD laptop with artificial intelligence capabilities, additional Microsoft Azure credits, and international mentorship to transform their proof of concept into a Minimum Viable Product. The team will then travel to Silicon Valley to compete in the Global Final, where international winners will compete for a global prize of $100,000 to bring their project to life.
Hosting this national final further reinforces Valencia’s positioning as a leading city for technological entrepreneurship and youth innovation. It also highlights the role of GSIC in connecting startups, corporates, and institutions within a global ecosystem, enabling meaningful collaboration, knowledge exchange, and real business opportunities for its members. Through initiatives like this, GSIC continues to bridge local talent with international networks, helping innovative ideas scale and generate impact beyond borders.
