The validation, carried out in collaboration with Club de Tenis Valencia, demonstrates how a single smartphone recording can provide players and coaches with advanced performance insights.
The GSIC Valencia Testing Lab has been involved in the testing and the validation of Kicknote, an AI-based technology that enables tennis players to obtain a complete performance report through a simple recording captured with a mobile phone, bringing professional tennis match insights to the palm of your hand.
The validation was conducted in collaboration with Club de Tenis Valencia, organizer of Copa Faulconbridge, ATP Challenger 175, providing a real-world testing environment to assess the solution under actual playing conditions. The testing was conducted by a team of experts including Alejandro de Gabriel (Operations director of Club De Tenis Valencia) Juan Fuentes (Director of GSIC Testing Lab) and Kamillo Abbott (GSIC Testing Lab Operations Manager).
During testing, the smartphone designated for recording the match was set up at one of the court's ends. Indeed, the great value of this tech solution stems from its simplicity, as it can operate without the need for smart courts or high-demanding requirements, just requiring a single smartphone.
Once the match has been recorded, the video is uploaded to the platform, where the footage is processed and a detailed performance report is generated within approximately ten days. This report provides players and coaches with advanced performance metrics, offering valuable insights into technical and tactical aspects of the game without the need for dedicated tracking hardware.
This highlights the growing potential of computer vision and AI to democratise access to advanced performance analytics in tennis. By leveraging everyday devices such as smartphones, technologies like Kicknote can help athletes of all levels to understand their performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
