In most academies, a young athlete’s information is spread across several places. Training load is in one tool, wellbeing check-ins in another, and school results and notes from the mental coach are somewhere else again.

When the athlete moves to a new club, most of that history stays behind. Bricks Performance, a Copenhagen company, has built a system that keeps it all in one place for club academies, sports schools and federations.

Each athlete gets one development profile, and it is theirs. It goes with them from the academy to the first team and the national team, and they choose which club or federation can see it. Athletes log their training, sleep and how they feel in the Bricks app. Coaches, physios and mental coaches look at the same profile, so a spike in training load gets noticed before it turns into an injury.

Bricks also puts a lot of weight on the athletes themselves. The company points to research showing that only about one in ten of the best U17 and U18 players go on to reach the same international level as seniors, and that the ones who make it usually reflected more on their own development as juniors. So the app asks athletes to set goals and game plans, and offers short courses that teach them to read their own load, sleep and progress. Bricks flags what has changed, but the decisions stay with the staff.

The company was founded by Jacob Baagøe, a physiotherapist who spent fifteen years working with Danish elite clubs, academies and the national team. Footballer Christian Eriksen and handball Olympic champions Mathias Gidsel and Mikkel Hansen are co-owners (watch them present Bricks).

So far, more than 2,000 athletes in Denmark and Norway have been onboarded, across over 20 clubs, schools and federations. Norwegian football club SK Brann and the handball clubs Ribe-Esbjerg HH and Sønderjyske Kvindehåndbold use it to get their staff working in one system and cut down on admin. At AKS København, it links each student’s school and sport data. Bricks is also a member of NVIDIA Inception.

We are delighted to welcome Bricks Performance to the GSIC ecosystem and look forward to introducing them to academies, sports schools and federations across our network.
